If, like me, or most people really, you’ve found yourself feeling anything but fantastic, it’s time to seek help. This is a personal journey for me as I only truly experienced depression after having my first baby. Feeling awkward, confused, and alone made it that much harder to seek help. I consulted my GP, my Gynaecologist, many psychologists, and eventually a psychiatrist but found I needed something else. Something specific, so I chose life coaching as a long-term support tool.
Recently, I’ve experienced this challenge again, now 18 years later, where I found myself just feeling ‘off.’ I was not interested in anything I used to enjoy and started finding life mundane, boring, and unfulfilling. I thought I might be experiencing a typical ‘mid-life crisis’ and again found myself feeling confused and alone. With time, I worked out what I needed—more hormones since I’ve officially hit menopause. This realization came only after a series of medical checks and prescriptions for the side effects of prescriptions for things I didn’t feel I needed.
So, when someone asks me, “When is the right time to seek help?” I always say, whenever you feel anything but your true, happy, authentic self. When stress saps your energy and desire to do things. If you notice any change in your daily routine, from sleeping to eating to suddenly becoming fearful of something you used to enjoy, it’s time to seek help and improve your mental wellbeing.

There is no specific ailment or professional for each individual. All we have in common is that we know ourselves well enough to recognize when we don’t feel right. My dream is that no one ever feels alone or confused when it comes to speaking to a professional. Regardless of your cause, be it addiction, trauma, work stress, relationships—anything that makes you unhappy can be changed. It’s not for me to say, ‘well that’s not a real problem.’ If it’s important to you, it’s important to me, even if just by way of a starting point.
At TLC Therapy Centre, we integrate a range of therapies both onsite and offsite, including wellness programs and referrals to other practices and professionals. Should you need a friendly starting point, please make contact. We are here to serve. Say goodbye to anything and everything negative in your world right now and let’s focus on your mental wellbeing. It starts with a friendly chat, that’s all.
